starsToo Cool for School?

A new teen pregnancy video out of Great Britain seems to have some folks' knickers in a twist. The cinema verite short depicts a teen girl giving birth on a field at school while classmates look on in horror/amusement. The video was developed by public health officials in a city north of London with high rates of teen pregnancy and it has been posted on YouTube and some social networking sites.

Here's what msnbc has to say, or you can watch the video itself here (WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES):

What do you think? Effective? Too shocking? Too graphic? No big deal? What's your take?

starsThe Year in YouTube

Ahhh, 2008... What a year! In this season of "best of" lists and year-end retrospectives, I thought it would be a good time to pause, take a deep breath, and take a look back at some of our favorite videos from the last 365 days.

Why, it seems like just yesterday that we learned Jamie Lynn Spears was pregnant, but her baby, Maddie Briann, was born in June. When it came to names, my money was on "Misti Cheyanne." Close, but no cigar.

In May, the entire field of sex education took a great hit when 78-year-old sex educator and sex toy enthusiast Sue Johanson retired from her Oxygen television show, Talk Sex with Sue Johanson. She continues to tour universities, which is lucky for our young adult crowd as evidenced by the student-shot video below:

Seriously, when was the last time you saw a 78-year-old woman demonstrate how to apply a comdom with her mouth?  You will be missed on Sunday nights, Sue.

In November, Barack Obama -- the son of a teen mother -- was elected the nation's 44th president. Here's what President-elect Obama had to say about his historical achievement:

starsWoW Vs. IUD

Do the words Horde, Alliance, and Leeroy Jenkins mean anything to you?  Even if you've never played—or heard of—the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft (WoW), I'm sure you'll still get the gist of this birth control "ad":

As far as I know, WoW hasn't yet been a part of any clinical trials to prove its effectiveness, so for now I suggest we stick with safer methods like, say, the IUD, which is personified for your education and enjoyment here:

starsSpeed Dressing

And now a break from Gloucester...

A provocative (!) ad has been making the internet/YouTube rounds over the past 48 hours.  In the purported ad for staid department store J.C. Penney, two teenagers get undressed and then time themselves as they quickly put their clothes back on.  The ad ends as the teen boy and girl walk past mom on the way to the basement to "watch TV" and the words "Today's the day to get away with it" appear on the screen.   We clever viewers realize that mom is being duped--that the young Lotharios are actually heading downstairs for a roll in the hay.  Aren't we smart?

Turns out the ad wasn't actually an ad for J.C. Penny at all, according to a story in today's Wall Street Journal.  The "Speed Dressing" ad, according to the WSJ report, was created without J.C. Penney's knowledge or consent.
