starsWhat's Your View?

The lovely ladies of ABC's "The View" talked teen pregnancy on Thursday with actors from "One Life to Live" and The National Campaign's own Marisa Nightingale.  Kristen Alderson, who plays 16-year-old Starr Manning on the daytime drama, and Brandon Buddy, who plays her 17-year-old boyfriend Cole Thornhart, talked about their pregnancy storyline - what they've learned, the reaction they're getting from readers of their blog and how they hope its helping others deal with the challenges of teen sexuality.  Marisa contributed some excellent words of wisdom to the segment as well, encouraging parents to talk to their kids about sex and relationships. You can see the whole thing here.

But what you don't see in that clip is all the great behind-the-scenes fun we had at the show.  First of all, working with Kristen and Brandon and the others at "One Life to Live" has been a fantastic experience over the past few months, so clowning around backstage with them was terrific.  Secondly, The View staffers (minus the grumpy security guards) are so gracious and helpful that it's impossible not to feel comfortable there.

It's often so easy to criticize the media when it comes to topics like teens and sex - but watching programs like these can serve as important ice-breakers for those awkward conversations in your own family.  OLTL is doing a really good job of tackling teen pregnancy and The View was great to draw attention to it.

In other "One Life to Live" news, we were thrilled to attend the Candie's Foundation gala Event to Prevent on May 7 where ABC Daytime was recognized for their commitment to teen pregnancy prevention.  Kristen Alderson made some remarks at the event and James Taylor played a bunch of his classic hits.  We sat with the winner of Seventeen magazine's "What's Your Plan A" video contest and met a lot of other folks committed to making a difference on this important issue.  It was certainly a night to remember!
