starsBedsider: A Valentine's Day Rebuttal

dagger_through_heart.jpg

I love Bedsider. I really, really love Bedsider. The tone, the look, the usability, the animated shorts, the videos, the information--it is all perfect. Given my love for all things Bedsider, imagine my deep disappointment when Bedsider unveiled their Valentine's Day Spotify playlist. As my boss once said about something else entirely; "I wanted to like it, but I can't."

So what's so objectionable? Umm, can you say Radiohead and Fiona Apple? Sure, I love seeing "Home" by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros on the Bedsider VD play list, but its simple power is sapped by the presence of...gulp...Bjork. Bjork! My primary objection to the playlist isn't the presence of such soul-sapping artists as Bjork (!) it is that the love songs presented are so...well...lovey-dovey. I'm all for some simple love songs but surely there is room for the offbeat and the off-putting.

Presented here--with mad love to Bedsider--an alternative Valentine's Day playlist in three categories: Sappy, slightly off-kilter, and angry:

Sappy:

Offbeat:

Off-Putting:
